Tips for Success
ATTEND CLASS EVERY DAY.
If you are absent, then it is your responsibility to make up notes and assignments.
SET GOALS.
What (realistic) grade do you want at the end of the semester? What do you need to do to earn that grade?
Sign up for an AERIES account and regularly check your grade.
ESTABLISH A QUIET STUDY PLACE AND TIME.
You should spend 10-15 minutes per day studying (aside from homework) notes and assignments. Be consistent!
COMPLETE ALL CLASS ASSIGNMENTS.
Complete all work—not some, not most, but all!
BE CONCERNED WITH ACCURACY.
Complete assignments with the intent to learn. Check and review work before turning it in.
ASK QUESTIONS.
If you need help, ask! Ask for clarification on content and assignments. Let me know if you are having trouble with the class, or have circumstances that make it difficult for you to complete assignments within the assigned time. If there are problems, let me know immediately!

Grading
- A traditional A, B, C, D, F grading scale will be used.
- 60% Assignments (class assignments, homework, papers, projects, and participation)
- 40% Assessments (quizzes, unit tests, School and District benchmarks, and final exam)
All students are required to have a notebook that is used for this class only. You must bring your notebook to class every day. All notes and assignments for this class will be organized in this notebook.
Grades are earned. Students who put in average effort can expect to earn an average grade. Students who put in little effort should not expect to pass. To receive credit, assignments must be legible, written in complete sentences, paraphrased, and turned in on time. Very few extra credit opportunities will be offered; please take advantage of them when they are. Individual extra credit will not be offered to remedy grades that are a result of failing to complete assignments. Grades will not be rounded.
Assignments are late if not turned in at the beginning of the class period on the due date. (Feel free to email typed assignments or projects as file attachments, but make sure the email address is correct!) Late work will be given full credit only for excused absences. Late assignments will be accepted one day late for 75% of earned credit. Tests and quizzes may only be made up for excused absences. If a student misses a test, he/she will need to make up the test within the next school week. Makeup tests will only be given after school. If a student misses a quiz, then an alternate assignment will be given.
Any and all cheating will result in a zero on the assignment. Talking, note passing, or cell phone use during a quiz or test will result in a zero. Copying will result in a zero for all students involved. Any plagiarism will result in a zero for the entire assignment. Please see student handbook for full cheating policy.
Student participation is an essential part of our class. Students will lose points for tardies, electronic device/cell phone use, sleeping in class, and leaving class for personal reasons (including bathroom passes). Please take care of personal business during passing period, and come to class prepared to participate and learn.
